I have encountered an issue with Word 2007 many times. The issue is that when I open a document, I cannot click anywhere within the document. I can however click on the ribbon, status bar and the chrome but somehow not on the document. I also cannot select anything in my document.

The solution to fix this issue is documented at Microsoft Help and Support.

I am somehow confident that I will get this issue again. And this post will save my time searching for the solution.

    Brian,

This issue can also be caused by some addins. I will suggest disabling addins and see if that fixes it.

I had the same problem. I do the following learned from a post by Neil at another website and it worked. good luck.

Hold down the windows key+R. This opens the ‘Run’ box. Type: ‘Regedit’ (without the apostrophes) then hit ok. This opens the Registry Editor.
In the registry editor open the following folders:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER / Software / Microsoft / Office / 12.0 / Word

Then find the folder called ‘Data’. Right click on that folder, choose Rename and add a number to it i.e. ‘Data1′, then click off it so that the new name is saved. Try opening word again and test the mouse click.
