Wi-Fi Not Working With Vodafone Software
As a part of my job I often travel around Sydney so I use a Vodafone mobile Internet connection to keep myself connected. At home I connect to my wireless network. Recently I faced a problem with my new laptop. The issue was that I could not connect to wireless network at home. After many attempts to repair, renew my IP address and apply other tricks I decided to uninstall Vodafone software. After uninstalling Vodafone software I could connect to Wi-Fi. But I need to connect to mobile internet when I am on road. Thankfully I found the solution to my problem
Solution
Ditch the Vodafone software and start using MDMA (Mobile Data Monitoring Application). MDMA does not require you to install anything and works without any problems. I can now connect to mobile Internet and to Wi-Fi without any fuss.

MDMA is also very light weight and has a small memory footprint.

You can download MDMA here.

As I can not get VMC installed (and Vodafone also does not have a solution), I tried to use MDMA with HSDPA USB stick, model Q78-K3520, but It kept searching for a device and never found one. Does this mean MDMA is not compatible with this device, or am I doing something wrong. I would very much appreciate it if somebody can help me out. Rhank you, Angela

What operating system are you running on? I had issues with MDMA on Windows 7, and then I updated firmware on my modem. Since then I am able to use Vodafone software.

Thank you for your reaction. I run Windows Vista Premium. The problem is (I think) that the Usb stick is not listed in device manager under modems, but under dvd-cd stations and installing VMC will not work. I get the message:
“There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support or package vendor. Action register QMI, location: C:\Windows\system32\, command: regsvr32 /s “C:\Program Files\Vodafone\Vodafone Mobile Connect\bin\QMI_Server.dll”
I switched off virus scan and firewall, restarted
several times and started again after going back to a restore point. I also tried other usb-ports. I have UAC switched
off. I instaalled all windows updates. I reregistered msiexec and
vbscript.dll. Now I plan to Windows Installer 4.5 Redistributable. And after that mauve uninstall Blackberry software, maybe that ifluences it. So a lot of trial and all error ;-) I think I have to solve al lot before I even can try if I can use MDMA. I am also think of installing the Huawei software for E169, but I am a bit scared of trying that.

Although Vodafone took a lot of time to help me with this problem (very friendly service), it did not work out. I could not get it installed.
It also didn’t work out with a different model. Although at one point we saw the modem drivers under modems in the device manager, installing VMC lite did not succeed. Probably because of a conflict between one of the programs on my computer and VMC, Vodafone explained to me. I could have tried the modem with a clean install, but I found that too much of a risk, because a clean boot (msconfig) and going back to an Image from a week after I bought this laptop, did not work out with the K5320-z (K5320 is a different modem) modem. Therefore I thought if I found the conflicting program it could well be one I needed or did not want to miss. So I choose to leave the modem at Vodafone and they gave me my money back.

Angela,
Sorry for late reply. Was away on holidays.
I have always found Vodafone software to be tricky. I guess you’ll be moving to a different Internet provider now.
All the best.

I hope you had a very nice vacation! I plan to buy a “free” internet key, so I won’t depend on the VMC program and if that works I am going to look for a provider. Thank you for your reaction and all the best, Angela

I bought a simlockfree Huawei modem, which works great. The VMC program still gives problems, but I do not really need it as the connect software from Huwaei works fine.
So I am extremely happy to have found a way to be able to connect to the internet this way.
Greetings, Angela
